Havant is proud to be flying the flag for LGBT+ History Month

Posted: 7th February 2022

Havant Borough Council will fly the rainbow flag with pride for the whole of February to celebrate LGBT+ History Month.

The annual month-long celebration aims to promote equality and diversity and encourages further education in LGBT+ issues to stamp out prejudice.

It raises awareness of matters, which affect the community, and celebrates the lives and history of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.

The Rainbow Flag, adopted in 1978, was designed as a "symbol of hope" and liberation.

Leader of Havant Borough Council, Councillor Alex Rennie, said; "We're delighted to be supporting LGBT+ History Month - it's a fantastic opportunity to promote equality and diversity in our communities.

"This year’s theme being “Politics in Art, the Arc is Long" and by flying the flag outside of our council building it is a visible reminder that we stand for acceptance, tolerance and inclusion.

"It is also chance for us to celebrate and observe the lives and achievements of the LGBT+ community - their history, heritage and experiences.”
