Rowans Hospice Charity joins forces with Local Hospice Lottery to raise £1.8 million over the next
Posted: 31st March 2021
Rowans Hospice is delighted to announce its brand new partnership with Local Hospice Lottery which aims to raise over £1.8 million towards local Hospice care in Portsmouth and South East Hampshire over the next five years alone.
Income raised through this new partnership with Local Hospice Lottery will play an important role in helping the Charity to continue providing care and support, without charge, to more families living with progressive and life-limiting illnesses across Portsmouth and South East Hampshire.
Local Hospice Lottery is a not-for-profit hospice-owned collaboration, with Rowans Hospice Charity now being one of 26 hospices throughout Great Britain benefitting from the proceeds raised by its weekly draws. By sharing management costs and overheads, this innovative model means more money will be raised for local Hospice care, with players benefitting from a larger prize fund.
For each £1 entry in the weekly draw, Local Hospice Lottery gives an average of 60p to local Hospice care, which is significantly more than most other society lotteries. To date, Local Hospice Lottery has raised over £34 Million for Hospice care and was named ‘Lottery operator of the Year’ by The Lotteries Council in 2018.
Carol Milner, Director of Income Generation said, “I’m delighted to announce our partnership with Local Hospice Lottery as it means Rowans Hospice will now receive more from every £1 a player spends to enter the draw than we would from continuing to run our own in-house Lottery. The Charity considered various options when deciding how to develop and increase this important income stream from our existing lottery and after very careful consideration, we decided that joining the Local Hospice Lottery was the best option for both the Charity and for our supporters.”
Local Hospice Lottery will give between 55% and 80% of profits from individuals playing in support of the Charity directly to Rowans Hospice, with this expected to be at least £1,800,000 over the next five years. The more people who join and play, the more Rowans Hospice Charity will receive.
Caroline’s dad, Nick, was cared for by Rowans’ Hospice at Home nurses after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in October 2019. She told us, “As a family we cannot thank Rowans enough for their support; the Hospice at Home nurses who attended the house multiple times, and did their utmost to make Dad’s last days as comfortable as possible; the Meerkats Bereavement Service helped us explain death to our children and the Living Well Centre nurses who continually supported us, listened to us cry, checked in on us when we needed it most and are always at the end of the phone when we need them.”
To help more families like Nick’s, the Charity is hoping lots of wonderful local people will get involved and sign up to play over the coming months. Players can sign up online at: www.localhospicelottery.org
With a chance to win and a way to care, players must be aged 18 or over to join the Lottery in support of Rowans Hospice. Membership costs just £5 per month and there are currently 201 cash prizes to be won every week:
guaranteed £2,000 prize
£1,000 rollover prize (which can reach as high as £25,000!)
£100 prize
8 x £25 prizes
plus, 190 x £10 prizes
That’s a total weekly prize fund of £5,200 - the largest of any Hospice lottery. There are also three Super Draws taking place every year, giving players the chance to win an additional guaranteed top prize of an incredible £10,000.
To help the Charity recruit new players and raise more money, a team of paid fundraisers will be working in the local area in the coming months - both door-to-door and at venues - offering local people the opportunity to sign up to the Local Hospice Lottery in support of Rowans Hospice. Each member of the team will be wearing a uniform and have a Local Hospice Lottery photo identity card. If you would like to view photos of the fundraisers, or are interested in becoming a paid fundraiser yourself, please visit the Local Hospice Lottery website.
